The tragic drowning of a teenager in Postavy not only activated the work of the concerned services (the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the Water Rescue Service, and the Juvenile Department of the Internal Affairs Directorate are always proactive in preventive matters), but also further sharpened their attention to issues of child safety.

Armed with leaflets and important information, employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the Water Rescue Service, and the Juvenile Department once again went to patrol the central city beach at Lake Drivyaty. And although the weather that day was changeable, there were plenty of people wishing to sunbathe and swim.

By the way, not all vacationers, upon seeing people in uniform, reacted appropriately to the warnings, as if not understanding the seriousness of the problem. Meanwhile, it is precisely such self-confidence and unwillingness to heed the advice of safety specialists that often lead to tragedy. Moreover, many, for example, did not even know that children under 16 are not allowed to be near the water alone without adult supervision. For instance, our patrol was literally struck by the carelessness of the guests of Braslav: two boys were swimming and diving near the pier, while the adults "watching" them were near the café "Beach." At such a distance, it is difficult to even see anything, let alone provide any assistance. Fortunately, no misfortune occurred.

A major problem for the rescuers of the Water Rescue Service is the pier at the lake, or rather, the children jumping from it. No matter how much you explain, people do not understand the dangers of such entertainment. It is especially problematic to monitor safety when dozens of people are present at the same time.

Another perennial problem is intoxicated beachgoers. During the patrol, some were hiding beer containers right before our eyes, fully aware that consuming alcoholic beverages in public places is prohibited.

However, there were also vacationers who closely monitored their children, did not allow mischief in the water, and generally adhered to established behavior rules. View all
