Take care of the children!

Prosecutor's Office News

The district prosecutor's office has intensified oversight of the enforcement of legislation aimed at preventing the death of minors from external causes.

An analysis of statistical data on the number of minors who died in the Vitebsk region from external causes indicates the inadequacy of measures taken to counteract the formation of adverse factors contributing to the occurrence of emergency situations.

Thus, in the 12 months of 2021, 21 children died in the Vitebsk region from external causes (2022 - 12). Of these, 3 children died as a result of violent actions, and 10 children died from drowning. The deaths of minors occurred due to various reasons. For example, 5 children died in traffic accidents, and 2 were suicides among minors.

Considering the relevance of preventing the death of children from external causes, parents of minors should remember that it is primarily their responsibility to ensure the safety of their children. In this regard, it is necessary to eliminate instances of minors being without adult supervision at water bodies, as well as swimming in prohibited, inadequately prepared, or unfamiliar water bodies.

Parents, remember – children cannot always accurately assess the level of danger of a particular activity. Teaching a child to be cautious and not to risk their health is the task and responsibility of adults. Parents often do not realize that by leaving children unsupervised for a short time, they are risking their lives. Sometimes such momentary carelessness can turn into a tragedy.

To avoid accidents, we remind you of the necessity to monitor children's behavior at water bodies and on roads, as well as the need to teach children the rules of safe behavior both at home and in public places!
