Safety During Easter Celebrations
On Easter day, a large number of believers gather in churches and visit cemeteries. In places where Easter services are held, the Ministry of Emergency Situations will organize duty personnel to ensure fire safety.
In churches during services, candles should be kept away from flammable materials. Upon returning home, place lit candles in non-flammable candle holders away from flammable materials.
Every parishioner is obliged to follow the basic fire safety rules to prevent fires in the church:
- be careful when lighting candles from candle holders, roll up your sleeves;
- hold a piece of paper or a handkerchief under the candle to prevent hot wax from dripping onto your skin, and to avoid instinctively jerking your hand and dropping the burning candle onto your clothing;
- securely tie back scarves and remove hair to reduce the risk of candle flames catching on them when bending your head;
- supervise children to ensure they do not place a burning candle near your clothing;
- do not light flammable items and liquids instead of candles, such as celluloid toys, matches, and lighters;
- try to maintain a safe distance from other parishioners;
- in case of clothing catching fire, quickly remove it, try to extinguish the flames with a fire extinguisher or cover it with a thick material;
- familiarize yourself with the layout of the church building to know the evacuation routes, which must be multiple, and ensure all exit doors are open;
- in case of fire alarm activation and fire notification, do not panic, leave the prayer hall quickly but without creating panic or a stampede.
In case of fire, immediately call 101 or 112
