Safe Cottage Season
On April 14, in the Lohytsk district, a pensioner was hospitalized with burns to the lower leg and wrist (5% of the body). While tidying up his cottage plot and burning trash, the grass caught fire due to a gust of wind. The elderly man attempted to extinguish the fire, resulting in burns. Additionally, a resident of the Ushachy district of the Vitebsk region, born in 1936, was admitted to a healthcare institution with 2nd and 3rd degree burns on her lower and upper limbs due to the burning of dry vegetation on her household plot.
Important: if you plan to light a fire in your yard, the area for the fire pit must be cleared of flammable substances and materials, dry vegetation, and equipped with extinguishing means (this can be a bucket of water or a fire extinguisher, a shovel – anything that will allow you to prevent the spread of fire in case of an emergency). Place the site away from the house and outbuildings to prevent them from catching fire. Under no circumstances should you use flammable liquids and gases for ignition. Do not put your health at risk. Remember that constant monitoring of the process is necessary! Most importantly, after the fire has burned out, do not forget to douse the embers with water to eliminate the possibility of re-ignition. Sometimes, just one spark is enough to put your life and property in danger. It is better to postpone the burning of trash to another day if the weather is windy.
Do not forget that burning dry vegetation, grass at the root, as well as stubble and crop residues in the fields is prohibited!
Another danger lies in a stove that has not been used for a long time. Unfortunately, when heating homes after winter, homeowners do not always follow safety rules, which often leads to fires and endangers the health and lives of people.
Important: do not heat a stove with cracks, do not allow it to overheat, clean the chimney, and finish the heating only after the coals have completely burned out.
