Braslav. Inspection activities on the water bodies of the district

The appearance of the first ice for many people marks the opening of the winter fishing season. However, the first ice is treacherous and unpredictable. To check how fishermen comply with safety rules, employees of the Braslav District Emergency Situations Department conducted a raid on the water bodies of our district.

The first fishermen were spotted at Lake Novyata, which is located within the city limits. Rescuers conducted a briefing with them, explaining safety measures on the ice, and handed out leaflets with important information, the knowledge of which will help save lives in case of an emergency. The water bodies of Berezhye and Svyatso were also inspected, but no fishermen were found there, only a few people "armed" with ice picks decided to check the thickness of the ice.

Next, the rescuers headed to the village of Pahoscha, where about a dozen fishing enthusiasts had already gathered at the namesake water body.

The Ministry of Emergency Situations reminded everyone that when going winter fishing, it is necessary to have a life jacket with you, as well as special grips — these are two handles of arbitrary shape, connected to each other and having spikes. They are worn around the neck. If a person falls into the water, the spikes will allow them to secure themselves on the ice and get out of the hole. It is also important to check the ice with an ice pick before stepping onto it. If it holds, it will hold your weight as well. Do not check the strength with a kick — you may fall through. It is also worth paying close attention to the color of the ice. If it has a greenish or bluish color, it is quite strong. If it is dull white or yellow, it is unsafe. Additionally, alcohol should not be consumed while fishing — it impairs the reaction needed in unforeseen situations. Furthermore, it is better to always go winter fishing not alone and not to stray too far from each other, so that in case of trouble there is an opportunity to come to the rescue.
