Braslav - Healthy City
On December 4, 2025, a meeting of the management group of the State Preventive Project Healthy Cities and Towns took place in the Braslav District.
Non-communicable diseases (NCDs): cancer, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, and chronic respiratory diseases, as well as their risk factors (tobacco use, harmful alcohol consumption, unhealthy diet, and lack of physical activity) are a growing problem in ensuring the sustainable development of modern society.
NCDs account for 89% of all deaths in the country, with 63% attributed to cardiovascular diseases; 53% of the population with high blood pressure (hypertension) do not take antihypertensive medications; 48% of men use tobacco; and one in four residents suffers from obesity.
The probability of premature death (before the age of 70) in Belarus is 1 in 4, with the likelihood for men being more than twice that for women.
In the Braslav District, 3 populated areas are involved: the urban settlement Vidzy; the agrotown Akhremovtsy; and the city of Braslav.
To achieve this goal, the leadership of the Braslav District uses its influence in areas such as healthcare, social welfare, environmental protection, education, economy, housing and communal services, security, transport, and sports.
The State Institution Braslav Center for Hygiene and Epidemiology is responsible for coordinating activities related to this project. Work is ongoing.
The action "Children's Health is the Main Family Value" in collaboration with the Braslav District Youth Union of the Belarusian Republican Youth Union at the "base of the forest park 'Lesnichovka'" by Puysha L.V.
Action: Ecological OPEN-AIR "We are in a World Without Borders" in collaboration with the State Institution "Territorial Center for Social Services of the Population of the Braslav District" and representatives of urban organizations and services, educational institutions. At thematic sites, participants could test and expand their knowledge not only in environmental protection but also in safety, healthy lifestyles, and even try their hand at creativity.
Specialists from the District Center for Hygiene and Epidemiology in collaboration with representatives of the Braslav Central District Hospital and the Braslav District Committee of the Public Association "Belarusian Republican Youth Union" conducted the action "Know, Understand" on the occasion of the International Day of Remembrance of People Who Died from AIDS at the production branch "Braslavryba" of the Open Joint Stock Company "Gluboksky Dairy and Canning Plant".
In the day care department for elderly citizens and comprehensive support in crisis situations, the State Institution "Territorial Center for Social Services of the Population of the Braslav District" in collaboration with a specialist from the "Braslav Central District Hospital" conducted an action on the topic "Health is the Main Reward". The action was implemented in the form of a game - quiz "Vitamin Kaleidoscope". All attendees were given gifts, and information was provided about the benefits of dairy products, the rules for consuming birch sap, and preparations for the bright holiday of Easter. Handouts on the day's theme were distributed.
