Be careful on the water!
The issue of drowning is one of the most pressing at this time. The prevention of drowning incidents is under constant supervision by the prosecutor's office of the Braslav District.
The peak of water-related accidents occurs during the swimming season. Most accidents are recorded at the end of the work week, on weekends and holidays, at water bodies where there are no seasonal rescue posts, as well as at water bodies that are not equipped for swimming.
Swimming in unprepared places, failure to observe basic safety rules on the water, and swimming while intoxicated are the main causes of drowning. Most accidents involving children occur due to their swimming without adult supervision.
The prosecutor's office of the Braslav District reminds that according to paragraph 20 of the Rules for the Protection of Human Life on Water in the Republic of Belarus, approved by the resolution of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Belarus dated 11.12.2009 No.1623, it is prohibited for vacationers to:
- swim in prohibited areas of rivers, lakes, reservoirs, ponds, and other water bodies;
- pollute and litter water bodies, drive vehicles onto beach territories, violate the regime of water protection zones;
- consume alcoholic beverages on the beach;
- swim beyond buoys and other signs indicating swimming zones;
- approach vessels (motor, sailing, rowing boats) and other floating means;
- climb on technical and warning signs, buoys, and other objects;
- jump into the water from boats, motorboats, piers, and other structures not intended for this purpose;
- use rescue equipment and gear for purposes other than intended;
- swim on boards, loungers, logs, car tires, inflatable mattresses;
- organize games in the water involving diving and capturing swimmers, as well as perform other actions that may cause accidents;
- signal false alarms;
- leave young children unattended;
- wash laundry on the beaches and bathe animals.
It should be noted that swimming in prohibited areas is subject to administrative liability under Article 24.42 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Republic of Belarus, which provides for a fine ranging from one to three basic units.
