In case of flooding, do not attempt to cross flooded road sections. 6. Contact the Ministry of Emergency Situations for assistance in case of danger.
A flood is a natural seasonal rise in water levels in rivers, streams, and water bodies, occurring due to intense snowmelt, ice jams, or heavy rains. Water overflows its banks, flooding low-lying areas, roads, yards, and residential houses. This is why timely preparation, attentiveness, and adherence to recommendations are so important.
As of today, according to operational data, there have been no recorded floods in the territory of the republic. In the past 24 hours, reports have been received about flooding from melting snow affecting 2 non-residential buildings and 5 yards in the Hrodna, Berestavitsa, and Svislach districts of Hrodna region, and 2 agricultural structures and 1 yard in the Baranavichy district of Brest region. There are no casualties. Employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations have been working on water pumping. Monitoring of the hydrological situation is ongoing. In the rivers and reservoirs of the republic, the water level does not reach and does not exceed the dangerous mark.
To minimize the consequences, we recommend that residents living in potentially flood-prone areas carry out simple flood prevention measures (with safety precautions), including:
clear the area around the house of snow and ice;
clean drainage and runoff ditches of debris, branches, and ice;
ensure the drainage of melting water from enclosed low areas by creating drainage ditches;
if necessary, construct simple barriers for water using available materials;
remove from the yard items that may be damaged by water, and move valuable and necessary items to an attic or upper floors.
How to act in case of a flood threat?
Monitor official messages from the Ministry of Emergency Situations, local authorities, and Belhydromet. If a warning about possible flooding of the territory is received, it is necessary to take measures:
prepare a first aid kit, a supply of drinking water, and food;
disconnect gas and electricity if there is a risk of flooding the premises;
wrap money and documents in a waterproof bag;
stay informed through radio, television, and the Internet.
For reference: in case of inability to stay in their place of residence due to the high water level, measures have been planned in each region for the relocation of citizens to temporary accommodation.
