Double Punishment

By the verdict of the Braslav District Court, a 35-year-old resident of the Braslav District was convicted under Part 2 of Article 218 of the Criminal Code.

A young woman, wishing to take revenge on a local resident, doused the entrance door of her house with gasoline, in which there were 2 adults and 3 minors, and set it on fire, thereby committing a crime as stipulated in part 2 of Article 218 of the Criminal Code – intentional destruction and damage to property, committed in a socially dangerous manner.

However, while committing the crime, the woman doused not only the door of the house with gasoline but also her clothing. As a result of the arson of the door, her clothing also caught fire, and it could not be extinguished without consequences for the accused. The residents of the burned house did not suffer burns or other harmful consequences.

For the committed act, the criminal not only faced criminal punishment but also caused serious harm to her health, resulting in a disability.

The court of Braslaŭ district found a resident of the village of Druya guilty of committing a crime under part 2 of Article 218 of the Criminal Code, and taking into account the position of the state prosecutor, she was sentenced to a punishment in the form of restriction of freedom without being sent to a correctional institution, for a period of 2 years and 6 months. The court's verdict has entered into legal force.

Which punishment is more severe: that imposed by the court or the acquired disability, is unknown, but every wrongdoing must be punished.
