HISTORICAL AND REGIONAL MUSEUM

The Historical and Regional Museum is located in an old mansion in the city center. The museum's exhibition consists of six halls and contains unique exhibits that are rare not only for Belarus but for all East Slavic lands.

The most interesting exhibits include: an ancient Egyptian figurine "ushabti", rich collections of which can be found in European museums, a unique set of women's jewelry from the 11th century, discovered during excavations of a burial mound near Lake Uklya.

Medieval jewelry is complemented by a find from the settlement of Maskovichi – a brooch with equal shoulders, the intricate decor of which has not lost its brightness after several centuries. The museum displays materials that testify to the early literacy of the local population – these are metal writing instruments, an 11th-century spindle whorl with Cyrillic signs "ДЭПРЯСЛ" and unique finds from the settlement of Maskovichi - animal bones with drawings and runic inscriptions. Visiting the museum, one can see that Braslav is not only one of the oldest cities in Belarus but also a place with a rich and profound history that traces its roots back to ancient times. Braslavshchyna has a rich history from the front line during World War I. Separate showcases are dedicated to the history of the region from 1922 to 1939. They provide insight into the architecture of urban development, the development of tourism and trade, Jewish schools of the pre-war period, and in general, the life of the district town.

A separate hall is dedicated to the events of the Great Patriotic War. The museum preserves a collection of works by the famous Belarusian artist Pyotr Sergeyevich. The exhibition features his early works, mainly in the portrait genre. The museum has rich collections of ethnographic items and household items from the early 20th century. It showcases Braslav towels and musical instruments. An interesting find is a silver treasure discovered in the village of Slobodka.
