Swimming while intoxicated

The main reasons for unsuccessful, and sometimes tragic, leisure can be attributed to the carelessness of citizens and violations of water safety rules. In most cases, emergencies occur during the consumption of alcoholic beverages, while swimming in an intoxicated state, or bathing in prohibited areas where there are no rescue stations. The consumption of alcohol and leisure by the water often leads to fatalities. Last year, the opening of the swimming season was not successful for everyone:

June 6, 2022 in the bay of the Dnieper River on Shevchenko Street, a man from Mogilev born in 1963 drowned. It turned out that the man was resting with a friend on the shore, and after consuming alcohol decided to take a swim. The entertainment ended in tragedy: the man drowned.

June 19, 2021 a group of three young men and one young woman celebrated a birthday on the shore of an artificial reservoir in the Glubokoe district, where they were consuming alcohol. After a while, a 24-year-old young man went swimming, dove in, and disappeared from sight. His friends tried to save him, but they pulled his body from the water without signs of life.

June 20, 2021 an emergency occurred in the waters of the Tsnyanskoye Reservoir. It turned out that a group of four people was resting on the shore, and the men were abusing alcoholic beverages. Later, while swimming nearby, an emergency services worker saw a person going under the water about 20 meters from the shore. He immediately went after the man, who was already underwater. The rescuer retrieved him from the bottom and transported him to the shore. There, he provided first aid. After a while, the man regained consciousness. The ambulance team, with a preliminary diagnosis of "drowning, non-fatal immersion in water, alcohol intoxication," hospitalized the victim.

June 24, 2021 the Ministry of Emergency Situations received a report that a person had drowned in the city of Lepel on the waters of the Ulla River. During the search, while examining the waters of the reservoir at a distance of about 60 meters from the pier, the body of a young girl was found without signs of life. It later turned out that the drowned girl, born in 1995, had been at the reservoir with her mother the day before, where they were consuming alcoholic beverages. The girl decided to take a swim, after which she disappeared from sight.

Important! An intoxicated person is unable to adequately assess the situation and may take actions they would never take while sober!

It is prohibited:
  • to swim in water bodies while intoxicated. Alcohol further dilates blood vessels, and after immersion in cold water, a sharp spasm occurs. In the conditions of an open water body, this can cost lives.
