In the territory of the village council, 1190 people live in 69 settlements. The agro-town Mezhany is located 17 km from the city of Braslav. The village council borders the Vidzovsky, Opsovsky, Plyussky, and Slobodkovsky village councils of the Braslav district, as well as with the neighboring countries (Lithuania and Latvia). The length of the state border is 50 km.
On the territory of the village council, there are lands of the State Production Unit "Braslav Lakes", the Agricultural Production Cooperative "Braslav Lighthouse", and the Limited Liability Company "Exito Prime". Trade services are provided by the mobile shop of the Braslav Bread Factory, the mobile shop of the LLC "Eurotorg", and the mobile shop of the Agricultural Production Cooperative "Braslav Lighthouse". There is also 1 rural culture house, 1 library, 4 FAPs, the State Nature Protection Institution "Braslav-Richi", the border post "Urbany", and the border checkpoint "Karasino" operating in the territory of the village council.
