Against the backdrop of rising thefts - a decrease in serious crimes

In the first half of the current year, the prosecutor's office of the Braslav district conducted systematic work to coordinate all subjects of crime prevention. In cooperation with other state bodies, supervisory and organizational measures were implemented to ensure legality and public order in all areas of activity.

Thus, in the district, 92 crimes were registered over the half-year, compared to 79 in the same period of 2017, and the number of crimes detected by the criminal investigation department increased from 46 to 48. Nevertheless, in terms of 10,000 population, the crime rate in Braslav region was 35.8, remaining one of the lowest among the regions of Vitebsk Oblast.

The increase in the number of crimes occurred due to the rise in committed thefts (+6), detected crimes by the economic security department (+4), violations of preventive supervision requirements (+3), and environmental legislation (from 0 to 6).

Thefts continue to lead (36 cases compared to 30 in the first half of 2017), primarily committed due to free access to the victims' property. This undoubtedly indicates insufficient efforts in preventing this type of crime among the residents of the district and tourists.

It should be noted that during the past year, there were no attempted murders, rapes, hooliganism, extortion, or robberies in the district. There was a significant decrease in serious and particularly serious crimes both by all police departments (from 17 to 8) and by the criminal investigation department (from 9 to 3). The number of crimes committed under the influence of alcohol decreased from 10 to 4, and from 18 to 13 for individuals with previous convictions.

In terms of administrative units of the district, the highest number of crimes detected by the criminal investigation department was registered in the city of Braslav - 14 (11 in the previous period), Vidzov district - 8 (7), Akhremovets district - 6 (3), and Slobodkovsky district - 6 (8). At the same time, a decrease in crime was observed in Teterkovsky (from 5 to 1) and Slobodkovsky (from 8 to 6) rural councils.

In connection with some negative trends, the district prosecutor's office conducted an inspection of compliance with legislation in the activities of the supervisory commission under the district executive committee. As a result, certain shortcomings were identified, and in some cases, the work of the commission was formal, which negatively affects the state of recidivism in the district.
