A child died in a fire in Hrodna, while the emergency services rescued his mother.

On August 20 at 15:02, Hrodna rescuers received a report that an apartment was on fire in one of the five-story buildings on Popovich Street in the regional center.

Three minutes later, the first fire crews arrived at the specified address. Clouds of smoke were billowing from the window of the apartment on the first floor. Engaging their compressed air apparatus, the Ministry of Emergency Situations personnel began reconnaissance, searched for the source of the fire, and organized the evacuation of residents.

In one of the rooms, rescuers found the apartment owner born in 1969. The woman was unconscious. The Ministry of Emergency Situations personnel carried her to fresh air and handed her over to the ambulance team. In serious condition, medical workers hospitalized the rescued individual in a healthcare institution.

During the inspection of the apartment, the Ministry of Emergency Situations workers found a child born in 2017 between a dresser and a wall in one of the rooms, carried him to fresh air, and handed him over to the ambulance team. Resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful. Medical personnel confirmed the child's death.

From the adjacent apartments, rescuers evacuated two residents. They did not require medical assistance. After airing out the apartment, the residents returned home.

The Ministry of Emergency Situations personnel established that the source of the fire was in the kitchen and extinguished the fire. The fire damaged kitchen furniture and left soot on the walls and ceiling in adjacent rooms.

The cause of the fire tragedy is to be determined by specialists. One of the versions is that it was due to a child's mischief with fire, as the child had previously played with matches, igniting paper and throwing it out the window.
