An intoxicated smoker is dangerous
Careless handling of fire is the most common cause of fatalities in fires. A person smoking in bed has minimal chances of survival. It is no secret that a significant portion of the population in our country smokes, thus risking not only their health but also their homes due to an unextinguished cigarette butt. Such seemingly harmless actions as "took it out – smoked – threw it away" can ultimately lead to a tragic chain of events: "drank – smoked – fell asleep." After igniting, the cigarette butt eventually goes out, but the smoldering spot it created can turn into a fire.
How to smoke safely? (at least for the sake of preserving life):
- if you cannot independently give up this harmful habit, do not throw cigarette butts on the floor and do not smoke in bed;
- cigarette butts should be placed in a non-flammable container (metal or ceramic can) filled with water;
- forget about the habit of throwing cigarette butts from the balcony and loggia;
- to avoid becoming a victim of a discarded cigarette butt, close balconies and loggias whenever possible, and do not store flammable and combustible materials on balconies;
- install a standalone smoke detector in your home. In case of a fire, it will sound an alarm, thus providing a chance for rescue.
