Illegal Fishing

The prosecutor's office of the district supported the state prosecution in the court of the Braslav district in the criminal case against the resident of Braslav, P., for committing a crime under part 4 of article 281 of the Criminal Code (catching fish during prohibited periods, using prohibited means (illegal fishing), causing damage in particularly large amounts).

The prosecuting authority charged P. with illegally catching 1 bream, 3 tench, 1 goldfish, 7 roach, 3 bream, 1 river perch, and 2 eels in one of the lakes of the Braslav district using a prohibited fishing tool – a net, during the fishing ban period in May 2020. P.'s actions caused environmental damage amounting to 7,128 rubles, which is considered particularly large.

Taking into account the evidence presented by the state prosecutor, the court found P. guilty of committing a crime under part 4 of article 281 of the Criminal Code and sentenced him to 1 year of imprisonment with a 1-year deferment of the sentence. P. was also fined 100 basic units amounting to 2,700 rubles. The environmental damage of 7,128 rubles was compensated by P. during the preliminary investigation.
