Attempts to swim across the water body

Safety on the water is, first and foremost, a necessity. People (even those who swim well) swim out to deep water and cannot return to the shore. Some organize competitions to overcome obstacles. However, not everyone can accurately assess their strength:

On June 26, 2021, on the Western Dvina River in Novopolotsk, the Ministry of Emergency Situations rescued a woman born in 1991. In the evening, two girls from a group went swimming. They started swimming towards the opposite bank of the river, and after reaching the middle of the river, they turned around and headed back to the shore where they had initially been resting. At that time, the rescuers became concerned about how slowly and uncertainly one of them was swimming. The Ministry of Emergency Situations workers immediately got into a boat and swam towards them. About 40 meters from the shore, one of the girls began to drown, and the other did not panic and started shouting for help. The rescuers approached and, taking the victim by the hand, pulled her out of the water. They delivered her to the shore by boat. The victim did not require medical assistance. The rescued woman was very frightened. The vacationers thanked the rescuers for their prompt response to the situation, which helped avoid tragedy.

On July 12, 2021, in Gomel, a schoolboy drowned while attempting to swim across the river. The tragedy occurred in a bay of the Sozh River, where swimming is prohibited. Four teenagers decided to swim across the river. One of them likely did not have enough strength and went under the water. Not seeing their friend on the shore, the others raised the alarm. The body of the boy was retrieved from the depths by a group of rescuers from the OSVOD. Resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful. The teenager did not regain consciousness. He was 15 years old.

On July 17, 2021, a similar incident occurred at the water body in the Lebedevka-Yug microdistrict in the city of Zhlobin. A 33-year-old man decided to swim across the water body while in a state of alcohol intoxication. He swam 8 meters from the shore and began to drown. The Ministry of Emergency Situations workers, who were on duty at this water body, saw the drowning man. One of the rescuers put on a vest, tied himself with a rescue rope, swam to the man, and lifted him under his arms. At that time, the second Ministry of Emergency Situations worker used the rescue rope to pull his colleague and the drowning man to the shore. The man was then handed over to the ambulance staff. The rescued man did not require hospitalization.
