Consequences of Violating Traffic Rules

Recently, the court of the Braslaŭ district completed the consideration of a criminal case against M., who committed a crime provided for in part 2 of Article 317 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus (violation of traffic rules by a person operating a vehicle, resulting in the unintentional death of a person).

M. was accused of having, on one of the days in April of this year, while driving a technically sound vehicle of the brand "LAND ROVER RANGE ROVER", displayed criminal negligence and carelessness towards the road situation and its changes, choosing an unsafe speed, and lost control of the vehicle, as a result of which the car, with two passengers inside, sped off a wooden bridge into the river. As a result of the traffic accident, one of the passengers in the car died.

By his actions in operating the vehicle, M. violated paragraphs 7, 7.1.3, 9, 9.7, 84, and 87 of the Traffic Rules, the violations of which are directly causally related to the traffic accident that occurred and the serious consequences that led to the unintentional death of a person.

By the verdict of the Braslaŭ district court, M. was found guilty of committing a crime provided for in part 2 of Article 317 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus and was sentenced to imprisonment for a term of 2 years, to be served in a correctional colony under settlement conditions, with deprivation of the right to engage in activities related to the operation of vehicles for a period of 5 years.
