Safety Rules for the Winter Period
Despite the variety of winter activities for children (sledding, skiing, tubing, skating), they continue to be a cause of many injuries among minors. To ensure the safety of children, a great responsibility lies with adults. They must teach children the rules of behavior on roads, in water bodies, on slopes, and in other dangerous places, as well as ensure compliance with these rules.
Currently, tubing, inflatable sleds, and toboggans are particularly popular. However, it is important to remember that such winter activities in unprepared areas without adult supervision often end in tragedy.
When tubing, it is essential to remember simple yet effective safety rules:
- tubing is only allowed in specially equipped areas;
- it is prohibited for multiple people to ride on one tube;
- strictly maintain distance and order;
- it is forbidden to ride near areas of increased danger (railway tracks, slopes near water bodies, roads).
To prevent accidents on the road, it is necessary to equip clothing, bags, or backpacks with reflective elements; walk only on sidewalks (if absent – on the shoulder) facing oncoming traffic; cross the road only at places equipped with traffic lights and pedestrian crossings; before crossing the road, ensure that there are no moving vehicles.
Failure to comply with safety rules on water bodies during the winter period annually leads to fatalities and injuries, most often among children. Winter weather is unstable, with brief frosts often giving way to thaws. In such situations, one must not forget the serious danger posed by freshly frozen water bodies.
It is important to remember that under no circumstances should one test the strength of ice by jumping or kicking it. It is also prohibited to go onto the ice during dark hours or in conditions of limited visibility (fog, rain, snowfall). Skating is only allowed on specially equipped rinks. To avoid landslides and collapses, it is forbidden to approach steep banks of water bodies and rivers closely.
One should remember that the duration of ice cover on water bodies varies. Generally, water bodies freeze unevenly, in parts, which is why it is prohibited to go onto the ice during the freezing period, as well as during intense melting and breaking of the ice.
Additionally, it is important to remind about the rules for handling pyrotechnics. For the safe use of pyrotechnic products for oneself and others, it is necessary to find a suitable place where there is no crowd of people. Before using pyrotechnic products, carefully read the instructions and strictly follow them. After igniting the product, do not hold it in your hands, use it indoors, in buildings, structures, on the territories of explosive and fire hazardous objects, or near power lines.
During the holidays, children spend most of their time out of the sight of teachers and parents, so it is important to plan the child's holidays wisely, engage them in active recreation or socially useful work, shielding them from the negative influences of the streets.
