Safe Winter Fishing

The Ministry of Emergency Situations informs  As part of the special preventive event "Thin Ice", employees of the Braslav District Department for Emergency Situations, together with representatives of the OSVOD, conducted a raid on the water bodies of the Braslav District, which are most popular among citizens for fishing, to determine whether winter fishing enthusiasts observe safety measures while on the ice. Many forget that stepping onto the ice of a water body is always dangerous.

 –  Stepping onto the ice must be done in a life jacket, and if the ice thickness is less than 7 centimeters, it is strictly prohibited to go out, – the rescuers explain.

Unfortunately, the results of the raid showed that most citizens are completely confident that nothing will happen to them. Some fishermen do not even have basic rescue equipment with them.

During the raid, the rescuers reminded the rules of safe behavior on the ice, the actions to take in case of falling through the ice, provided examples of accidents when the passion for winter fishing outweighed common sense and led to tragedy, and also reminded the emergency service phone numbers.

During the raid, the Ministry of Emergency Situations distributed leaflets to fishermen and other visitors of the water bodies about the rules of safe behavior on the ice during the winter period, where they will find useful information, and most importantly, they reminded that safe ice is the ice that no one walks on!
