Not everyone considers that a person with a fishing rod faces various dangers while fishing. Meanwhile, any body of water, even a well-known one, poses certain risks:

On April 9, 2023, in an artificial water body near the village of Novoselki in the Postavy district, employees of the Water Rescue Service retrieved from the water the drowned citizen Khomich A.I., born in 1968. It is known that the man was fishing in the water body while consuming alcoholic beverages and then went for a swim. Only the man's belongings were found by his acquaintance on the shore, and his further whereabouts are unknown. After conducting search operations on the surface of the water body, the drowned man was found by the Water Rescue Service 10 meters from the shore (depth about 2.5 meters).

On September 18, 2021, two Minsk residents drowned while fishing in the Vitebsk region. It turned out that the two residents of the capital were fishing from a boat on Lake Lisno. When they did not return to their summer house in the evening to their 62-year-old acquaintance and stopped communicating, he began to search for them. On the morning of September 19, local residents found the body of a 61-year-old Minsk resident in the water. The second fisherman - a 51-year-old man - was retrieved from the water by Water Rescue Service employees a few days later.

On June 24, 2021, a report was received at the number "112" from a Water Rescue Service employee about conducting rescue operations in the reservoir "Drozdy". According to eyewitnesses, in an unprepared swimming area, a man was swimming for fishing gear and miscalculated his strength. One of the rescuers was patrolling the assigned sector on a jet ski to ensure that no one was swimming there. He unexpectedly noticed the man about 20 meters from the shore when he began to go under the water. The rescuer jumped to him, helped him grab the jet ski, and transported him to the shore. At the Water Rescue Service station, he was examined. The man was in a state of alcohol intoxication, but fortunately, he was not injured.

Rules for safe fishing:
  • Before going fishing, be sure to inform your relatives and friends about the fishing location and clarify the time of return;
  • It is not advisable to consume alcohol, as it slows down reaction time, relaxes attention, and dulls the sense of real danger;
  • Take a first aid kit, flashlight, local map, and means of notifying your location with you;
  • Before starting to fish, it is necessary to inspect the fishing area - be especially careful on steep and eroded riverbanks;
  • To avoid accidents, it is better to fish without straying far from the shore;
  • When fishing from a boat, fishermen should not forget about the presence of rescue and signaling equipment on board.
