Illegal Migration

In October of this year, a citizen of the Russian Federation, a resident of the Chechen Republic Z., was tried in Braslaŭ for illegally transporting five citizens of Vietnam across the state border of the Republic of Belarus.

Z., who coordinated the actions of the Vietnamese in illegally crossing the state border, was well acquainted with the local terrain and knew the locations of border posts and signal stretches. However, despite a professional approach to the matter, the illegal migrants left traces that were timely discovered by the border service of the Republic of Belarus. Z. was detained along with the Vietnamese already on the territory of Latvia.

During the investigation, it was revealed that Z. is a well-known figure in Chechnya. Previously, on the territory of the Russian Federation, he had been convicted of a number of terrorist-related crimes – as part of armed groups, he had blown up trains, fired upon police patrols, and resisted arrest with armed force.

For assisting in the organization of illegal migration carried out by a group of individuals in collusion, Z. was sentenced by the Braslaŭ District Court to 4 years of imprisonment in a high-security regime with confiscation of property. Z. did not admit his guilt in committing the specified crime and appealed the sentence, which has not yet entered into legal force, to the Vitebsk Regional Court.
