A house burned in the Braslaŭ district: the owner, a pensioner, died, and his wife was hospitalized.

On January 6, at 19:31, firefighters received a report of a house fire on Darožnaja Street in the village of Pirtany, Braslav district.

Upon arrival at the scene, the emergency services observed an open flame in the residential house. The house was occupied by a retired couple: a woman born in 1960 and a man born in 1954. At the time of the fire, both were inside.

As it turned out later, the woman noticed the fire and tried to wake her husband, but due to heavy smoke, she ran outside without waking him. Shortly thereafter, she was examined by the medics who arrived at the scene and was hospitalized with burns to her back, covering about 9% of her body.

During the firefighting efforts, the emergency services discovered the body of the homeowner on the floor of the house. The fire was extinguished by the rescuers, and the roof of the house was destroyed by the flames, with damage to the ceilings, walls, and property.
An investigation is underway regarding the fire, which was likely caused by careless handling of fire while smoking by the deceased man.

The Ministry of Emergency Situations reminds:

-under no circumstances should you smoke in bed or near flammable substances and materials; require the same from your guests;
-do not leave unextinguished cigarette butts and matches in the ashtray, do not throw them in trash bins or places where flammable materials may ignite;
-do not throw cigarette butts from balconies or windows. They can provoke a fire if they land on the balconies or loggias of lower floors, where old items are often stored;
-close windows and balcony doors when leaving the apartment to prevent the entry of ignition sources into the premises;
-do not throw unextinguished cigarettes into the lower stairwell landings.
