In the Braslav district, a pensioner sustained burns after deciding to "clean up" the plot using fire.
The ongoing challenge for rescuers is the burning of dry vegetation. This method of tidying up land is more common in spring after the snow melts, but even in summer, there are enthusiasts who like to "burn things off."
On one Saturday evening, the Braslav Emergency Situations Department received a report of grass burning in Kozyany. An elderly local resident decided to clean up using fire, but, as often happens, lost control of the flames. In an attempt to extinguish the fire himself, the man suffered burns and was hospitalized.
– Once again, the failure to comply with fire safety rules and requirements led to such a tragic outcome, – clarifies V. Sorokin. – The pattern is that adults or elderly individuals intentionally burn dry grass and debris, forgetting that a small fire can ignite buildings, outbuildings, and personal vehicles. The Ministry of Emergency Situations reminds that burning dry vegetation at the root is prohibited on household territories and land plots designated for collective gardening or summer cottage construction. Fires should only be lit under the condition of continuous monitoring of the burning and smoldering process. I hope that the warnings from rescuers will remain unheeded and your safety will be ensured at the highest level.
