During the warm season, there are many cyclists on the streets of the city. While some enjoy their rides, others seek opportunities to seize someone else's property. How to protect two-wheeled transport from theft was explained by Junior Police Officer of the Public Order Protection Department of Braslav District Police Department Dmitry Shostak.

The main reason for bicycle thefts is leaving them unattended in public places: near shops, in entrances, on stairwells, as well as in other common areas, notes Dmitry Shostak.

According to the law enforcement officer, an item left unattended or forgotten is still someone else's property, and its theft entails criminal liability. To protect their property from thieves, the police officer recommends not leaving bicycles, scooters, and strollers in entrances, on stairwells, and in other common areas. If it is impossible to take the transport with you, a reliable locking device with a metal cable should be used. It is also important to explain to children the necessity of taking care of the safety of their belongings.

As Dmitry Shostak explained, if a citizen suddenly discovers a bicycle left unattended that may subsequently be stolen, it is necessary to report the information to the police. In this case, police officers will take measures to establish the owner of the bicycle for its return. The law enforcement officer asks not to remain indifferent to these facts, as a call to the police about the discovery of an unattended bicycle or other property can prevent the commission of a crime.

— If a bicycle is missing, it is necessary to immediately contact the police at number 102. When reporting a theft, it is important to specify the exact address from which the two-wheeled transport was stolen and the circumstances of its disappearance. Independent searches may only harm the case — it is better to trust the investigation of the crime to law enforcement officers.
