Fire safety issues at polling stations are under the control of rescuers.

In anticipation of an important socio-political event – the elections of the President of the Republic of Belarus, employees of the Braslaŭ District Department for Emergency Situations are assessing the condition of polling stations for compliance with fire safety requirements. There are 21 polling stations under the supervision of the region's rescuers.

Preventive visits are conducted in advance, and not only the premises where the polling stations will be located are subject to inspection, but also the entire building.

During the inspection, special attention is paid by the Ministry of Emergency Situations inspectors to the presence and functionality of automatic fire alarm systems, checking the compliance of evacuation plans (which must be displayed in a visible location for visitors) with their graphic representation, the location of evacuation routes and exits, and their designation with fire safety signs.

– There must be unobstructed access to all designated emergency exits on the plan, and the doors must open from the inside without a key, – explain the Ministry of Emergency Situations employees.

The rescuers are also interested in the knowledge of the facility staff regarding the actions to be taken in case of emergencies. Additionally, the rescuers pay attention to fire extinguishing equipment that is still within its operational lifespan.

– According to the requirements, fire extinguishers should not be stored near heating appliances, hot surfaces, and equipment, and direct sunlight should be avoided. Using a fire extinguisher is not difficult. You need to take it in your hands, break the seal, pull the pin, press the lever, and direct the extinguishing agent towards the fire, – reminds Arthur Chekhovich, the senior inspector of the supervision and prevention sector.

Before the start of early voting, representatives of the Ministry of Emergency Situations will visit all polling stations in the region and assess their readiness for this important socio-political event, and during the voting period, they will ensure oversight and duty on site.
