Life Without Violence

Prosecutor's Office News

Domestic violence is today one of the most important causes contributing to social and psychological ill-being of families, depriving them of stability and safety. As a rule, the nature of domestic violence is significantly skewed towards violence against women by men.

A resident of the Braslaŭ district, previously convicted in 2016 for systematically inflicting bodily harm on his wife (a crime provided for in part 1 of Article 154 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus), did not draw the necessary conclusions for himself and, in attempts to restore the broken family, committed another crime provided for in Article 186 of the Criminal Code (a criminal case was initiated by the district prosecutor) against his wife, for which he ended up in the dock.

Thus, the man, being in a state of alcohol intoxication during a conflict with his wife, wishing to instill fear for her life, intentionally threatened her with murder, expressing his intention to bring a gun and kill her, and without making her wait long, he indeed brought a gun wrapped in a blanket to the house.

Seeing her angry husband, the woman had no choice but to flee the house, but fortunately the gun only frightened her, and no other harm was done to anyone.

The court of the Braslaŭ district found the man guilty of committing a crime provided for in Article 186 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus, and he was sentenced to three months of arrest, taking into account the position of the state prosecutor, as well as compulsory safety measures and treatment for chronic alcoholism were applied.

For reference. A citizen (family) who has suffered from domestic violence can contact the State Institution "Territorial Center for Social Services of the Population of the Braslaŭ District" for placement in a "crisis" room and receive temporary shelter for several hours to an extended period of time, regardless of the time of day, (as well as the place of registration and residence).
